Enjoy this half-day pilgrimage from Kuala Lumpur to Batu Caves. The etymology of the word Batu comes from rock or stone, which is entirely fitting for this 2-kilometer wide and 329-meter high limestone mountain in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Batu Caves Tour is a great way to experience these wondrous limestone cliffs and 113-year-old temple complex. You can do this as a half-day tour from Kuala Lumpur, or combine another activity to make this into a full-day cultural outing.

Choose to climb the 272 Batu Caves steps up to the entrance of the cave and marvel at the vast views of Kuala Lumpur below. Take photos of the world’s second tallest statue of a Hindu deity and discover traditional Batik paintings and the famous Royal Selangor Pewter factory.

Batu Caves Opening Times

The Batu caves open from 7 am every day, while some of the other caves are only open at 10 am.
The Royal Selangor and Batik factory are open from 9 am to 5 pm daily.

Batu Caves: Monday – Sunday: 7:00am – 9:00pm
Dark Cave: Monday – Friday: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday – Sunday & Public Holidays: 10:30am – 5:30pm

Best time to go

The caves get filled up with tourists quite quickly, so it’s best to visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive and before it gets too hot. The caves are busier on weekends, so if you can visit during the week you will avoid the masses.

It was great exploring Genting Highlands. The mall was worth strolling around. For Batu Caves, the way up going to the caves can be quite stressful because of the huge number of steps, but it’s still a nice sight to see.
