In the last month of summer, even the laziest will not be bored. On August 24, Ukraine will celebrate its Independence Day. But a lot of bright and interesting festivals and holidays will be held during the month.
Festival “Genoese Helmet”, Sudak
2-4 August
Romance and courage, massive battles and fights for the sake of the beautiful ladies, knights and troubadours – all this is “Genoese Helmet” in Sudak. The main festival activities will take place in the territory of the Genoese at the weekend. Everyone will try to test their own strength: to participate in knightly pastimes, archery and crossbow pometat knives and fight on a log.
Tickets for the festival will cost 80 UAH, and you can buy them on the spot.
How to get there. You can get to the fortress of Sudak by city buses that travel route number 1. You can also walk. The walk from the bus station to the castle will take about 30-40 minutes.
Where to eat. Near the fortress, you will find many cafes, which are famous for their delicious cheeks. Besides, there will be a kitchen on the territory of the fortress during the festivals where you can enjoy medieval food and beverages.
Festival “Zahid”, Lviv
16-18 August
“Zahid” is the main musical event of Western Ukraine, which gathers thousands of rock music fans. This year, it will bring together musicians from five countries. However, a key idea to support Ukrainian art and culture will remain unchanged.
Tickets: All three days of the festival will cost you 300 UAH. You can buy tickets on the spot.
How to get there. From the central train station in Lviv will be organized free buses to the festival grounds. You can also get the train from the suburban railway station of Lviv.
Where to eat. You can refresh yourself in the field kitchen that will work at the festival. You can also grab something with yourself.
Festival “Epics of Ancient Kyiv IX-XI century” Kiev
16-18 August
If you want to witness the brave knights, princes, jesters, merchants and craftsmen of ancient Kyiv – go to the mega-festival “Epics of Ancient Kyiv IX-XI centuries”. More than 700 participants from different countries will take part in the festival. Also, there will be a presentation of the unique collection of the world’s best horses of historic breeds. There will be an archery shooting range, the prince’s mint and a medieval costume.
Ticket price: 100 UAH (for pensioners – 50 UAH students – free of charge). Tickets will be sold on the spot.
How to get there. “The Kievan Rus Park” is located near Kyiv in Kopachev village Obukhov district. You can get minibuses from the metro Vidubichi or your own transport.
Where to eat. On the territory of the park will run medieval kitchen where you can have lunch. Also not far from the park there are a few cafes where you can quickly, and tasty eats at reasonable prices.
The festival “Z-Games”, Yevpatoria
14-19 August
The festival “Z-Games” is the biggest sport-music project in Eastern Europe. Crazy drive, active sport, incendiary parties and educational workshops – all this and more await you on the shores of the Black Sea in Popovka. This year you will be surprised by the new format of the music programme – daily open-air on a new stage – in the heart of the Z-Games.
The Ticket costs 399 UAH. You can buy them on the spot.
How to get there. From the central bus station in Yalta, every 20-30 minutes will run minibuses to Popovka. Fare is 20 UAH. Time – about 30 minutes.
Sorochinskaya Fair, Poltava
20-25August
This is certainly the most famous, the biggest and most colourful country fair! This year it will be held on August 20-25 in Velikie Sorochyntsi village (Mirgorodskogo district, Poltava region). There you can buy traditional embroidery, pottery ceramics and much more. “Sorochinskaya Fair” is a bright pageant featuring the characters of works by Gogol and folk groups.
Entering is free for all visitors.
How to get there. On thefair daysr, from the central bus station of Poltava minibuses to the destination will run every 20-30 minutes. The fare – 30-35 UAH. Trip time – 1 hour 40 minutes.
Where to eat. You can enjoy delicious dishes of the national cuisine on the territory of the fair.
