Enjoy this half-day pilgrimage from Kuala Lumpur to Batu Caves. The etymology of the word Batu comes from rock or stone, which is entirely fitting for this 2-kilometer wide and 329-meter high limestone mountain in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Batu Caves Tour is a great way to experience these wondrous limestone cliffs and 113-year-old temple complex. You can do this as a half-day tour from Kuala Lumpur, or combine another activity to make this into a full-day cultural outing.

Choose to climb the 272 Batu Caves steps up to the entrance of the cave and marvel at the vast views of Kuala Lumpur below. Take photos of the world’s second tallest statue of a Hindu deity and discover traditional Batik paintings and the famous Royal Selangor Pewter factory.

Batu Caves Prices 2019

The cost of these tours starts at about $10USD for a half day tour and goes up to about $50USD for a full-day tour.

Batu Caves Opening Times

The Batu caves open from 7 am every day, while some of the other caves are only open at 10 am.
The Royal Selangor and Batik factory are open from 9 am to 5 pm daily.

Batu Caves: Monday – Sunday: 7:00am – 9:00pm
Dark Cave: Monday – Friday: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday – Sunday & Public Holidays: 10:30am – 5:30pm

Best time to go

The caves get filled up with tourists quite quickly, so it’s best to visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive and before it gets too hot. The caves are busier on weekends, so if you can visit during the week you will avoid the masses.

It was great exploring Genting Highlands. The mall was worth strolling around. For Batu Caves, the way up going to the caves can be quite stressful because of the huge number of steps, but it’s still a nice sight to see.

Everything about this tour is convenient. We were picked up at our hotel according to the time stated and went to Genting Highlands first. We stayed for around 2 hours or so which was enough to do different things around. After that we went to Batu Caves, and were in awe of the colorful place. Our tour guide Harry Tan was really helpful and very informative, he even gave tips as to what dish was good near the area where we’re staying at. This activity was really worth it.

Great place to visit but 272 steps up then down are a killer. also, there are more steps within the caves – beware. whoke experience the Batu caves was good. pewter factory not bad either, but the other place I cant even remember what it was, just a shop where they make some things on site. could have done with longer at the Batu caves to explore temples and gardens at the site.

Visited Jade Batik and the people there are so amusing, very talented. I love their paintings too. I was in awe when I visited Royal Selangor, never did I imagined that pewters are made by skilled craftmen. Amazing work of hands. In Batu caves, saw Lord Murugan statue and the colorful stairs. And played with the doves.

The driver was punctual when he took us from the hotel. The temple is impressive, great and you can also enjoy a beautiful view. The climbing of the 272 steps was not difficult, being accompanied by the monkeys. Another sensational thing was visiting the Pewter Factory from where you can buy wonderful pieces.

It was a value for money experience, especially if you have minimal time to research how to go to Batu Caves, the Chocolate Factory, and the Handmade Batik Craftstore. Davin, our driver and guide was very friendly and accommodating. Your tour might last until 130 pm so make sure you bring something to nibble to stave off hunger – just in case. 🙂

Our guide, Nadia, made our trip one of a kind. She gave the history of every place we visited. Giving us reminders on what to do and what not to do. She is also very helpful and thoughtful. Even though we experienced a thunderstorm in Batu Caves, our trip is still wonderful. We had a unique experience of touring the area amidst the rain, lightning and thunder. I highly recommend this trip!
