The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, more commonly known as the Seville Cathedral, is the largest cathedral in the world. Standing at 413.ft high and 253,000 sq ft in total area, it towers over all its counterparts.

As Spanish tourist options go, Seville is the third most frequented city in the country, alongside Barcelona and Madrid, and the Catedral de Sevilla is its most iconic landmark.

Sitting at its heart, the Cathedral, Seville, is central to all the city’s activities. It’s one of its major hubs. Hence, why Seville Cathedral tickets are some of the most popular and sought-after tickets around.

Below you’ll find a variety of options and packages to make use of during your visit to the cathedral. Great options for romantics and families alike.

Know before you book:

  • You are required to wear sleeved clothing
  • It is an active religious site
  • Children under 9 enter free

Highlights:

  • The largest cathedral in the world
  • The largest Gothic church in the world
  • La Giralda climb and view

Stain glass window inside the cathedralThe Catedral de Seville has the formal title of “See”. This refers to the “episcopal see”, a church that holds a catholic bishop’s jurisdiction. This makes the cathedral a very important seat of power within the Catholic faith.

And, its design and historic magnitude reflect this. Seville’s cathedral is the biggest in the world and has been the site for many historic events. It has seen the baptism of Juan of Aragon, as well as the life and death of Christopher Columbus.

It’s also the burial site for famous monarchs, such as Ferdinand III of Castile and Peter the Cruel. Along with them are famous cardinals such as Juan de Cervantes and Pedro González de Mendoza.

Inside you’ll find the famous Archbishop’s Palace, the Gothic nave, as well as famous carvings of Christian imagery. Finally, the famous bell tower, La Giralda, meaning “she who turns”, tops the steeple and is probably the cathedral’s, and city’s, most well-known and iconic attraction.

Seville Cathedral Prices 2019

The Seville Cathedral entrance fee is $10 USD. This covers access to the cathedral grounds only.

Guided tours, which offer a lot more insight into the history of the church, begin at around $20 USD per person. Depending on add-ons and extras, this price can rise to $70 USD.

Operating Hours

Opening hours at the Cathedral can vary depending mainly on the time of the week.

As it’s an active religious site, times are influenced by the mass schedule and feast days. However, a standard week would look like this:

Monday: 11am – 3:30pm
Tuesday – Saturday: 11am – 5pm
Sunday: 2:30pm – 6pm

Best Time to Visit

Seville cathedral from a distance

The shoulder season at the Seville, Spain, Cathedral is by far its best time to visit. Although September through to January is winter in Spain, it’s by no means cold. Humid yet mild days make for great exploration. That, and lesser amounts of tourists!

Below you can find a handy summary for the best time of year, week and day to visit Catedral de Sevilla:

Best Time of the Year: Shoulder season in Seville sits in the Fall and Winter months. Peak season between February and June is the result of two major events that take place here, mainly the Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril.
Although worthwhile events to see in their own right, if avoiding large groups of tourists is your goal, then try planning your travel away from them.

Best Time of the Week: Weekdays and weekends are based around mass times and events hosted at the Seville Cathedral. Due to it being a fully functioning church, mass times on weekends make it difficult to host guided tours. So, a visit during the week is advised.

Best Time of the Day: Generally, there is no specific best time during the day to visit the cathedral. However, Spanish locals have a custom of practicing siestas (3pm – 5pm). Look into how this might affect your respective tour.

I booked this at the last moment and suprisingly I ended up with a private tour. My guide spoke great English and knew her history. I highly recommend this tour.

We booked at short notice, the night before, we were met on time by Marina who is very knowledgeable and interesting. Don't go without a guide! We learnt so much about things that we would have otherwise walked past. The best!

Very detailed and clear explanation from our guide. I like how she was prepared with pictures showing La Giralda during the various periods, St Anthony after it was stolen from the Cathedral, the collapse of the Cathedral roof etc. I also like the fact that each of us had individual ear pieces and we could hear the guide even when we are walking around a distance from her taking in the sights.

Fantastic and interesting tour, made special by the enthusiastic and humorous tour guide. Would recommend this to visitors to Seville, but ensure you’re energised, as it took three hours and we could have stayed longer.

the tour guide is very professional and well prepared. Clara not only told me the fascinating history of the Cathedral but also showed us pictures on her iPad to emphasize important facts. The meeting point from Klook is incorrect though, the whole group waited us as seemed that we were late but we were actually there 30 mins in advance the meeting time. The correct meeting point is by the fountain square (Plaza Virgen de los Reyes) not Plaza del Triunfo, Sevilla

Be prepared for a full 3 hours! I love the history and the stories so it was fantastic for me. My husband is not captivated by the stories and history as much so he felt that it was long. Our guide was very knowledgeable. His English was also good. Learned some things I had not heard before. Very very good tour!

Amazing tour Our guide – Carmen – was very informative and told us many amusing stories, thank you. Something to think about : we went on a very hot day and the tour was 2 venues in 3 hours which we found too much. The places are an absolute must to see, but depending on your circumstances, maybe consider doing the tours separately. Take plenty of water as there are no breaks in the tour.

It is a 3-hour tour so buckle up! The guide was wonderful and the tour super informative. The tour allows you immediate entrance which is KEY because the lines are often super long. The Alcazar was phenomenal. Highly recommend. Of course, must be willing to walk around for 3 hours.

Efficient, time-saving and very informative Our guide, Jesus, was excellent. So much information. We toured the Alcazar first and had about 25 minutes to visit the gardens on our own (longer would have been appreciated). Jesus then guided us around the cathedral, where our tour ended. We could then visit at our leisure and/or climb the Giralda. There was virtually no queuing (only a few minutes waiting for another tour group to precede us into the cathedral) and our guide was excellent. The organisation was straightforward and efficient.

This was one of the best tours I’ve been on and it was 100% due to our guide, Lupe. She was fantastic – enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable. The tour ended up being just my boyfriend and I and a couple from Germany so it felt private. I wish we could’ve taken Lupe with us to guide us on during the rest of our trip – she really is a gem!

Thorough but crowded The guide herself was very knowledgeable, but the sheer number of people in the cathedral made it very difficult to learn from the guide and thereby enjoy the tour. So many people kept hustling past, and as someone from New York, I thought I'd be accustomed to it all by now. To have to try and relax, slow down my pace, only to be accosted by selfie sticks and people rudely pushing you or invading your personal space for a selfie or a photo that they'll probably never look at again is frustrating to say the least. Also, there were times when the space was too loud to even hear the guide. Other than the issues with the space/venue itself, the guide was phenomenal, and communication with their team when I arrived a bit later than planned was smooth and without a hitch. I enjoyed the tour and the company who organized it.

Big group tour of cathedral and bell tower We were part of a large group, but we could hear the guide ok as provided with ear piece/radio receivers. Guide spoke good English and had knowledge about the cathedral but more enthusiasm and local insight would have given a better experience. It was a very hot day though.

A magnificent building full of wonderful sights and treasures – superb We found the “skip the queue” ticket unnecessary as there was no queue; there may have been one at the other door however. The Cathedral was vast and although there were many people inside, it was very easy to walk round without difficulty and it was absolutely full of wonderfully coloured windows, treasures, paintings, carvings, statues, decorated tombs and chapels – mind blowing! There was organ music playing some of the time, adding to the experience and although we spent more than three hours looking around, there was still so much to see, we shall have to make another trip to Seville to be sure of seeing it all!

Excellent to skip the queue Whilst I've had problems with Get your Guide before and I had made up my mind not to use them again, I was very please with this result. It was great to be able to skip the queue which was very long when we got there. Additionally, I called them for some assistance and they were kind, courteous and helpful and my issue was resolved.
