Puffing Billy Prices (Timetable, Tickets & Packages) 2024
Puffing Billy is one of Australia’s most well-known and beloved railways. Located in the Dandenong Ranges, near Melbourne, this 3 foot, Victorian-era coach has been departing from its base of operations at Belgrave Station for the past 100 years.
To this day, tourists from all over the world come to Belgrave station to purchase their tickets and catch a ride on this famous Victorian railway. With the Puffing Billy train still in such great condition, this comes as no surprise.
Its popularity as one of the top Australia activities comes from its authenticity. The railway has been restored to preserve this small piece of Australian heritage, with a specific emphasis on its first years in operation. An authentic 1920s train in motion makes for a novel sight.
There are many scenes along the track for viewers to see, and numerous attractions and activities to make use of along the way. Here, we list just a couple of packages on offer when visiting the Puffing Billy Railway.

Best Time to Go to Puffing Billy
The majority of visitors have agreed that the Australian spring (September to November) is the best time to visit the Puffing Billy railway. This is partially due to the fact the majority of the wilderness will be in bloom and you’re likely to enjoy spectacular views.
This could also be due to the weather at this time being mostly clear, and the famously high Australian temperatures not appearing yet. It’s also not as chilly as it is in winter, which is a plus, considering the open-top carriages.
Travel Tip: Puffing Billy bookings are best done online, so as to miss the queues at the station’s ticket office.

The lead up was stressfull We had our tickets and pick up time from the hotel, the evening prior to our trip we were informed we had to go to a different hotel over an hour earlier than our original pick up time. Our concierge did manage to get them to pick up at our hotel but at 07.10 not 8.15a.m. This was a shame as the day started badly, we were on the bus until about 9.15 most of this time waiting in a side street for a space to park for the main pick up. Once were did start on the tour our driver/guide was excellent and so knowledgeable. Puffing Billy was an experience and took me back to my childhood. There was plenty of space in our garage so it was easy to look and take photographs. The Devonshire cream tea was delicious but it was strange eating it at 10.30in the morning.

Fantastic trip. Driver who picked us up from hotel. which was an unexpected bonus add on after booking confirmation. The bus trip was informative with the bonus of a fantastic devonshire morning tea of divine scones jam and cream followed by the short bus trip down to the train station and the highlight of our trip the train ride with great views as we puffed and chuffed our way thru the forest. Then to finish another great adventure on the bus as he showed us more of the Dandenong ranges as we wended our way home to Melbourne city. My husband needed a wheelchair and at no time were we made to feel a nuisance as the driver readily placed the folded up chair out of the way during our bus journey. Highly recommend this trip to one and all. Firstly for the scenery, then the novelty/nostalgia of the steam train, and last but by no means least the friendliness of all concerned in offering the service from the driver to the railway volunteers and the cafe staff.
