Your trip starts from the Storms River harbor, right next to the beach. From there the group takes a short paddle across the bay to the mouth of Storms River. Once at the mouth, you travel under the suspension bridge kayaking Storms River and enjoying the scenery.
Please note that if the sea is too rough you will follow your guide on a short walk through the enchanting Tsitsikamma Forest to the river mouth. In such cases, the paddle will start from here where the water is calm.
Once you have passed under the bridge, marvel at your surroundings as you’re flanked on either side by dramatically sheer cliffs. From the water, the cliffs seem to stand hundreds of meters tall. Once you’ve taken in your surroundings, you’re directed towards a mysterious dark cave filled with peacefully shy bats.
After some time the water will become too shallow for the Storms River mouth kayaks. It is then that the lilos are readied. These fun, shallow water vessels will take you the rest of the way.
Furthermore, there are many opportunities along the Storms River gorge to partake in rock jumping. More adventurous explorers will find themselves scaling the cliffs on either side, to leap with a mix of excitement and adrenaline into the deep pools below. This makes for a truly spectacular photo opportunity.
Kayaks are provided, however, if you enjoyed the adventure consider purchasing your own tandem kayak.

Times
This tour lasts approximately three hours as you paddle from the harbor across the ocean, traveling under the Storm River suspension bridge and up the beautiful Storms River Mouth.
Departure times are flexible and will be confirmed upon booking. This experience requires good weather conditions and can be rescheduled or refunded in the case of bad weather.
Best time to go
The best time to experience the Tsitsikamma in all its glory is in the summer months, between November and March, where the weather is warm and the cool water in the gorge is pleasant.
If you aren’t afraid of a bit of cold, the winter months also allow for a quieter and just as beautiful experience.

An incredible experience in an untouched natural pardadis Tsitsikamma national park is a must see for everyone travelling through the garden route. The Indian ocean meets the storms river in one of the most impressive gorges I have seen. An almost untouched paradise where nature amazes you with her strenght and cuddles you with her calm, all in the same place. To peddle a kayak is absolutely the best way to visit its river. We started our tour with an introduction on how to navigate the dangerous and yet attractive waves of the ocean through the gorge, where calm takes over. Our guides, Clinton and Evan were very knolegable and told us about the variety of fishes, birds, plants and rocks of this amazing place. They were always making sure everyone was feeling comfortable and enjoyed this adventure at most. Absolutely recommended!
