Jutting up high above the rest of Melbourne’s skyline, the Eureka Tower Melbourne is one of the tallest buildings in the Southern Hemisphere. Standing at almost 300 meters tall, it’s topped with an incredible observatory.
Eureka Skydeck is situated on the 88th floor of this behemoth and is famously the highest open-to-the-public observation deck south of the equator. From here, the surrounding skyline is dwarfed.
The views from Eureka Skydeck are undoubtedly the best in the city. Panoramic vistas extend in every direction, encapsulating the whole of Melbourne and even the Dandenong Mountain Ranges on clear days.
Not only are these views breathtaking, but they also help you get your bearings. From above, the whole city can easily be mapped and understood. You’ll be able to spot famous landmarks, such as Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, and Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Spend some time wandering around the observation room, which is lined from floor to ceiling with glass. You can make use of the free viewfinders to spot landmarks and find places you’ve visited on your trip to Melbourne.
Next, head to The Terrace. This open-air Melbourne observation deck exposes you to the elements and allows you to soak up the views in a thrilling and breathtaking way.
Lastly, if you select The Edge Experience option, make your way over to The Edge for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The Eureka Tower breaks yet another Southern Hemisphere record, with the fastest elevator. The journey up to Eureka Skydeck involves riding an elevator that hoists you up 88 floors in under 40 seconds.
Traveler’s Tip: If you get a chance during your trip to Melbourne, we would highly recommend riding the Puffing Billy steam train through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges.
